Hi! I’m marcus. I am a pre-licensed counselor who practices on the unceded land of the Lenape people, based in the city of Philadelphia. I am a queer, nonbinary, neurodistinct, Black, African American, Dominican, person. I am a recent graduate of the Counseling and Mental Health Services (M.S.Ed.) and Professional Counseling (M.Phil.Ed.) programs at the University of Pennsylvania; I also hold a BA in Psychology with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
My therapeutic work integrates a variety of theories and modalities to best suit the client. I mainly pull from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), feminist therapy, liberation psychology, internal family systems (IFS), emotion focused therapy (EFT), and dialectic behavior therapy (DBT). My work is also informed by somatic and embodiment practices, feminism, abolitionism, anti-colonialism, anti-racism, and mad activism.
My specialties include working with artists, working with people whose identities are marginalized by society, intergenerational and historical trauma, grief, transitions, coping with feelings of anxiety and depression, and post-traumatic stress.
I aim to hold space with clients to process, affirm, understand, locate, and validate their experience. I believe our bodies and minds hold ancient healing technologies waiting to be unlocked and reclaimed. I encourage clients to cultivate a presence in their lives that promotes flow, ease, and equanimity.
Outside of the therapy, I’m usually communing with nature, hanging out with my dog, biking, playing video games, relaxing, moving my body, enjoying food and teas, or simply doing nothing.
